Alright, so we have already learned how to get rid of negative energy from ourselves and others using sage. **If you missed it, you can find it here (it also breaks down why people use sage if you're interested in that too)!
Now we are going to focus on how to remove negative energy (aka cleanse) from your home or office with sage. We want the vibrations and energy in our room, home, or office to be shining bright and strong, full of love, hope, and kindness!
Ohhh and BTW, there is one other cool scientific/hygienic perk to sage smoke that we want to get into really quick. Burning sage can remove 94% of bacteria in the air. Seriously... it removes bacteria from the freaking air! When you let the smoke fill the room (for about an hour), you will not only have cleansed the energy, but the air as well! Want to learn more about this? Here is some recent research that has proven that you can clear bacteria from the air by burning sage herb.
>>So anyways<< let's get down to it! Below is our guide on how to cleanse a home/room/office with sage.
How to Cleanse a Room or Home with Sage
Open up a window or door. This will not only help with ventilation but it will also give you an opening to send and clear the energy out of (you'll get it in a bit).
Grab your sage bundle and a ceramic dish to carry around with you (this is clutch for catching falling ash from the sage).
As you light your sage, set your intention - “I’m going to clear this space.” Blow the sage out and let the smoke start to billow.
Pick a corner to start in and then also make a choice of which way you are going to go in the room (clockwise, counterclockwise - whichever you chose doesn’t have significance). Then start at the bottom of the corner and raise your sage/smoke to the upper part of the corner. Keep facing the wall as you wave the sage/smoke up and down and all along the wall until you reach the next corner of the room. While you do this, imagine squeezing and waving all the energy out of the room.
Repeat starting at the bottom of the next corner, raising it to the top and then waving the sage all along the walls again. Repeat until you have covered each corner and wall.
It's easy to remember when you just think of this… Bottom corner, upper corner, swipe around the wall - hooray! Or that's what Devin sings to herself at least... ha. ha.
You’ll want to get the doors & windows as you come across them too. People generally outline the opening along the outsides and then draw some sort of symbol over the middle. We like to do hearts, stars, or sometimes a giant X - it really depends on your mood and/or what you are trying to get out of the session. We recommend doing this on the outside of your front door as well.
After you complete the room, look around and see if there is anywhere you might have missed. Is there any cabinet or nook and cranny that you missed that you want to open up and clear energy from? Pop a little bit of smoke in there. Just be careful to not let burning ambers get anywhere.
You can either do one room at a time or you can keep going on and do your whole home (one room after the other, every hallway, bathroom, etc.). Either way, you’ll do the same thing once your finished. Take your sage to that window or cracked door that you opened in the beginning and then imagine, with one swift arm movement, swiping all of the energy out of your place.
Congrats! You just tossed a whole lot of weird, stagnant, negative, whatever-kind of energy out of your home or office.
If you want to take it to the >>next level<< - retrace your steps but with a smoking Palo Santo stick.
Palo Santo attracts positive vibes and energy, so after you clear a space it’s a nice compliment to then fill it with hope, love, and positivity.
With Palo Santo, you don’t need to go up and down walls like you did with the sage. Just light the end of the stick and think about this new intention - bringing happiness, love, and kindness into your home. Blow out the stick and then walk it around letting the smoke fill the room.
And that’s it! No need to send this energy & smoke out the window. We want all the positive vibes to stick around for awhile ✨
Want to sage, but not down or can't have smoke around - try our Sage Spray! You'll get the same effect but without smoke!
