How to get in a better mood

We all have them… you know… bad, challenging days.

So, why do these days happen?

Peter J. Bentley, computer scientist and author of Why Sh*t Happens: The Science of a Really Bad Day , told Popular Science that "Those who have a negative attitude are more likely to endow normal little mishaps with some mystical significance. Some psychologists even suggest that it's a way of subconsciously avoiding responsibility for our actions."

So, basically, it's on us if we are having a bad day.

What's good about this? We can do something to change our negative attitude and mood!

Consider these tips when you're feeling thrown off.

Cleanse Your Energy

Sage, Palo Santo Sticks, & Sweetgrass are all cleansing tools that have their own unique ways to change your energy. Sage is used to cleanse, protect, and heal. Palo Santo Sticks clear negative energies and provide energetic protection. Sweetgrass attracts positive energies and reminds us that the earth does provide us with everything we need.

To use these tools, just light one end of the stick or tip of the sage/sweetgrass braid and allow it to burn for 30 seconds. They will often extinguish on their own, but if they don't, just blow it out. Move the smoke around you and the place you're in. As the smoke and the soothing scent fills the air, say "Adios!" to your negative vibes.

**We also have a sage if you don't like smoky things but still want to shake up your energy!

Essential Oils

Essential oils & diffusers can be super effective for changing your mood. Hil & I both have them in multiple rooms of our places (living room, work office, & bedroom) because they are seriously miracle workers when it comes to repairing our stressed out, lazy, sour moods. **Side-note, they can also elevate your already good mood!

Just add a few drops of your favorite smell to a diffuser, and in a few moments, the room will be filled with an aroma that will instantly lift your spirit.   Where to start? Grab a diffuser and some essential oils.

Our favorite essential oils are Aroma Foundry's Rosemary, Lavender, Grapefruit, Ylang Ylang, Lemon, and  Peppermint. These  Sweet Orange and Clary Sage  essential oils are great too.

We also love combining smells to make blends based on our moods. Some of our favorite blends include Clary Sage + Grapefruit, Lavender + Peppermint + Grapefruit, Peppermint + Ylang Ylang, Sweet Orange + Lemon, and this Stay Alert blend by Edens Garden.


Taking a few moments for yourself can be a very effective way to address your bad vibes and then clear them from your mind. 

We use the app Headspace to help us stay focused and minimize our thoughts from drifting off while we are trying to meditate.
